In May of 2006 and again in May 2007, we were honored to host the first and second annual "With Angel's Wings" event, which is an effort to raise money for a war memorial in honor of Specialist Donald Roy McCune of Chelsea, MI. McCune died in Landstuhl, Germany on Aug. 5, 2004, from wounds sustained in Baghdad, Iraq, when his patrol vehicle hit an improvised explosive device (IED).

Donald McCune's mother, Darcy Monier, is an active member in the Dock Dog's community and an avid pet lover; having rescued more than 100 animals. This event is an exposition of the various canine activities that Donnie went to with his mom, in order to earn funds to purchase a War Monument to be placed in his hometown, Chelsea, MI.

The name "With Angel's Wings" comes from the fact that the last time Darcy spoke to her son, Donnie, they were discussing her plans to take his pit bull, Misha to a Dock Dog's event. Donnie teased his Mom that "Pit bulls don't jump"! Sadly, Donny passed just days before Misha's first event. Not only did she jump, she soared with Angel's Wings, making it into the Finals!

The goal of the event is to not only highlight the wide variety of canine sports available, but also to raise money for a memorial statue to be placed in McCune's home town of Chelsea, MI and to establish a scholarship fund in Donald McCune's name.
